The Schlenkline: The heart of Schlenktechnik
Schlenk technology, which owes its name to the German chemist Wilhelm Schlenk, refers to working under inert gas. This technology is used to carry out processing and reactions in the absence of air and water. Humidity and oxygen are kept out of the equipment to prevent unwanted reactions of air- or water-sensitive substances – for example, spontaneous combustion of pyrophoric substances or self-decomposition of oxidation-sensitive substances.
The core of the Schlenkline apparatus is the Schlenkline, also known as the nitrogen distributor rake or pump fork. It consists of two lines and a variable number of tapping valves. The vacuum is applied to one line and shielding gas is applied to the other, so that the vacuum supply and shielding gas can be selected by actuating the valves. This alternating process of vacuum supply (evacuation) and shielding gas supply (embroidery) is known as Schlenken. Our Schlenklines are made of borosilicate glass 3.3, have high chemical and thermal resistance and allow individual recipients to be changed quickly.

As a user, you can order a Schlenkline from KGW-Isotherm according to your specific requirements. You determine the number of tapping valves, the position of the vacuum flange and, if required, additional gassing or ventilation valves.
